Well Morris invited me and Stephen down to hunt yesterday at his place. We got down late and ended up sleeping in for the morning hunt. We didn't end up seeing anything after two sits between 3 of us yesterday. Well we came home last night and slept in this morning. We got a late start this afternoon and weren't in the sh till about 3:45. Close to 4:15 I look up and see a deer in the field. Wouldn't you know it's the little 6pt that Stephen killed his momma last year. We had pics of him and his sister all summer and had already said that would be the deer that would end up being shot by him for his first buck. He fed across the field for 15-20 min and finally walked a bit closer but was about to walk out of the field. I grunted at him after he clears the limbs he had too and Stephen pulled the trigger. I wasn't sure of the shot at all but thought he had hit him. The deer was quartered to us when he shot and I had been hammering him about taking his time, and aiming behind the shoulder after the miss two weeks ago. We waited a few minutes and got down to check for blood. There was hair and a drop of dark blood at the shot spot but very little after that. I trailed him another 30 yds by tracks and specks of blood at that point hearing him get up and walk away. We backed out and called Morris to bring gunner to track him. The puppy in him had him bouncing around a good bit but he finally settled down and went with it. It was only a few minutes when Morris hollered he had the deer. We would have found the deer eventually but gunner dang sure made it a lot easier. Stephen was definitely pumped and so am I about the deer and having a good friend as Morris.
