Good to know. I was looking at 300 win. I wouldn't be opposed to 300 wsm though. Your needs may be quite different than mine. I prefer the short actions because of the weight and going with that theme they allow easier mounting of smaller lighter scopes with the lighter rings. If a few ounces isn't an issue at all, the two piece Optilocks are good mounts and you can even get extended ones for short tube scopes. Since you are interested in larger calibers, I doubt a few ounces of weight is much of an issue. Looking at calibers such as a 300 Win mag, something model 75 and older might be worth looking into. I prefer the older actions but they are heavier guns, which may not be a bad thing with a 300 win. Cabelas usually has a large selection of older Sako rifles and they are IMHO bargains in the $1000-$1200 price range. Also some of the newer wood blued 85's have fantastic wood if that's to your tastes.
