Shot a 6pt a few years ago that weighed 205. That's the heaviest one to my knowledge ever killed on our lease.
Only accurate rifles are interesting.

205# 8 pt 199# 7 pt 195# 10 pt
All weighed on the processor's scale, all from a 100 acre family plot, all from the same stand.

I killed one in 09 that weighed 218. That's the only deer I've killed over 200 in Alabama. I'm sure there's plenty out there over 200 before rut, but most of the ones we kill at the house are chasing and have run some of their weight off.

I have killed some that I'm almost certain would have been over 200# based upon their field dressed weights, but like 2dogs.....most of them have been in the mountains and not gutting them before trying to get them out wouldn't have made much sense.

I use to hunt a property that just about every mature deer we would kill were all over the 200 mark. Biggest being 254 lbs. Where I hunt is about as close to hunting kansas in alabama as you can get. Cedar groves, sage fields/ thickets, and a few big mature hardwoods. I love it, but it makes the bow hunting tough.

Trust me, I'd prefer all mine be under 150 lbs but have over 150" antlers. Dragging that 235 lb sucker in December about killed me. I killed a nice 8 last January that weighed about 175 and after dragging him 300 yards through the holler I'd have sworn he weighed at least 750.

I've killed several bucks over 200 lbs. We have weighed every buck we have killed since 1998 on our place, and our average weight on 4+ yr old bucks is 187 lbs. Most will weigh between 180 and 210. This year the three that have been killed were 241, 206, and 154. The 154 was a 4 or 5 yr old. He was just short. Very small mature buck. 200 lb mature bucks are not that uncommon anymore.
I've killed a 215, 212, 212, 210, 208, 206, 204, and 200 looking back through data. And quite a few more hovering just under that in the 190-198 range. All the deer that weighed that much were long and thick framed. Matt is that dressed weight or live weight ???? just to add,,,,,reason why i ask is i have seen some that field dressed around those weights

I actually weigh all my big bucks on real scales not the eyeball kind. I've killed more than a dozen bucks 200-252#. Killed a 241 and a 252 on consecutive days off the same hot doe..... when they start dressing out around 180 and 200 they some big deer . course i'll never see another where i hunt now . they just don't get close to that big .

I'd say the misconceptions at least lies in the fact that most people are killing 2.5-3.5 year olds and calling them "mature" and therefore they think they are automatically over 200 when they aren't. A 4.5 pre-rut buck thats been well fed will most likely be over 200. Much like us. Eats a lot and hasn't been bred in a while lol.

Even well fed, the vast majority of mature bucks will not be 200. In Alabama. The closer you get to the equator, the smaller the individuals become.
Saskatchewan - sure.

I killed this one in 85 (I was 12 at the time). He was gutted and hung on the skinning rack for several days because it never got above 25 degrees on that trip. When we weighed him at the processor he was 215. They estimated that he was 250+ on the hoof.

if we kill a mature deer before Christmas they normally weigh 190-210 lbs. After that once running begins 175-190 is typical for a mature 4+ yr old deer. That I can think of 4 of the last 12 or so bucks we killed that weighed 200 or just over it.
