One of the young men in our club in Titus called and said he had shot a "Monster Buck". He said he knocked it down and it got up and stuggled up the hill but he couldn't find any blood. I told him to back out and we would go find it in the morning. He has only killed one racked buck so "Monster Buck" my be an overstatement but I'm hoping he is right. I'll give an update in the morning.

Not all, but most deer I've trailed where someone "knocked him down and then he got up and ran off" were hard tracking jobs. Better go ahead and line up a dog.

Good luck man. Hope it's a stud.
I tracked one that I shot three times under 30 yards and then another person of unknown shooting skills shot for a little over two miles over a three day weekend once before it crossed a property line.
I know it was dead. They are tougher than everyone thinks. Especially the really big ones. That deer is the reason I bought a 7 mag. Probably way too much gun for deer around here but I know exactly what will happen when I shoot them.

I hope the deer is found. Really I do. But those deer are very rarely recovered. Well... Neither are deer that are shot in the arse moving at 200 yds.

I'm not trying to criticize anyone on the actual shot they took. I'm responding to the fact that deer that drop, then get up and leave, are very rarely recovered, and even dog trackers will agree with me. I don't care about your opinion on the shots I take. If I can see a deer, then I can kill it (within a reasonable distance), and I have yet to lose a deer I shot in the rear end. I swear some of you people would criticize a newborn just because they can't argue back.

I took a friend of mine hunting early on in the TN season on some public land and he shot one on the butt from 20 yards with a samic sage recurve and it ran 50 yards and died. Amazing what those shots can do! It was a 100 inch 8 point and he couldn't have been happier!
