I was having a conversation about this with a Shelby County teacher over the holidays. The individual said that as soon as the new laws passed a couple of years ago the school board sent out a memo stating that even with the law the teachers could not carry a pistol in their car or they would be in breach of their contract and terminated. I thought this was the very thing the law was trying to correct. Shelby County has been informed several times that their policy is not enforceable as it violates the law. The law specifically says private or public employees. To my knowledge, they have never acted on their policy. I do personally know of one shelby county teacher that was threatened by her principle and human resources with termination because they found out she had a gun in her car. After consulting with their lawyer and the AEA lawyer, they were informed they could not fire her for it. They can not have a policy that conflicts with the law.

The problem is, like most people, the teachers for the most part don't research the issue and just trust their administrators. Many of them don't even know the Federal Gun Free Act doesn't prevent me or you from having a gun on school grounds.
I went to one school where their no gun sign referenced the original gun free schools act that was declared unconstitutional.

Thanks doekiller. That is what I thought and exactly what I told them. The fact that the sign was referencing a law deemed unconstitutional is hysterical.
