Need to see the stand, but at 30 years old I would probably whack and stack them and replant with 3rd generation loblolly. Note this: The primary goals would be maximum short and long term wildlife benefits and hunting.
If your primary goal is wildlife habitat, long leaf is the way to go. If using a forestry consultant, be sure he understands what YOUR objectives are. I wouldn't plant loblolly if timber production was not my main objective. I don't know what programs are available in your county, but you should be able to do a clearcut and then use the programs to create firebreaks, spray, burn and replant at little or no cost to you. JMO
 Plenty of programs available for longleaf planting. DCNR, NRCS (WHIP, EQIP, Gopher program, etc), if cropland, Farm Service Agency (CRP, the biggest money giveaway there is!)
