The easy answer is what timbercruiser described. Whack and stack and replant.
I'm curious if there are additional options to maximize wildlife benefit. Maybe long leafs planted at a large spacing and burned regularly to maximize browse? Or thin really hard and hope for the best with the remaining trees (similar to Gobblers pics)
