Black Titi, Cliftonia monophylla, pronounced tie-tie not the other way around. Probably won't find many of these in the hills of Fayette County, lower coastal plain species.

Cruising in a TiTi thicket is tough, especially if there are the usual cat claw vines in there. I had a cruise line many years ago that was 1 1/4 miles long with every step in TiTi. Miserable stuff, but not as bad as Carolina Rose can be.
