Sounds like you been watching doom-n-gloom Spann.

Anybody that poor mouths Spann about weather is either flat out mis-informed or has something against him personal for some stupid reason. He cares about your life first and foremost. And he doesn't over-hype stuff. All you have to do is watch his discussions every day and be able to understand English words. It's that simple.

I like Spann. Lot of Spann haters out there though. Most of which are ticked off cause he got one weather forecast flat out wrong out of tens of thousands.

The weather channel maybe, but when the National Weather Service starts talking 2-3 days out, folks need to listen.

A lot of people said the same thing in April 2011, and then...

The Weather Channel still reports the weather?!?!

Yeah...The Weather Channel also names storm systems for dramatic effect now too rolleyes

ROLL TIDE !!!

I just closed on our new house in Meridianville last Friday. If a tornado or large hail develops, I probably have a 100% chance of it hitting me. grin

You haven't lived in AL long. This is the tornado capital of the south. Three tornadoes touched down on the road I live on, in 3 years. I know you had twisters in TX but we get plenty of them too. April 27, 2011 is the date that people talk about, but one year before that, a tornado cut my hometown in half. Thankfully nobody was killed.

I haven't watched the weather this week but one of the guys at the shop said he saw on a local weather forecast this morning that we would have a set up tomorrow almost identical to what we had in April 2011. Has anyone on here seen that? I know that weathermen can't predict the temperatures 24 hours in advance too well, but if they are seriously comparing tomorrows probabilities for tornadoes with that of April 27, 2011 it's more than likely gonna be bad.

Might as well start writing down everything you own and it's value.

Fur, Spann said this is not anything like 2011, that was a generational event. However the setup is not looking good, especially the west side of the state.

Good! What channel does James Spann do weather for?

EDIT: What time span does "generational" refer to? 1974 was as bad as 2011 and I was alive for both of them.

I read it on his weather blog today. He doesn't cover where I live but I like reading his stuff, he somewhat reminds me of Dan "we are all going to die" Satterfield. He knows his stuff.

Well you are an old codger then grin
I'm not real sure, he just basically said that setups like that day are very very rare.

I have read his forecasts too and he is really good at severe storm coverage. IMO he is NOTHING like Dan Scatterfield. He was an idiot. I remember when he issued a tornado warning that the NWS didn't issue. He got his hand slapped for that one.

Spann is the meteorologist for ABC 33/40 in Birmingham, Fur.

This setup isn't anything like 2011. That's a once in 40-50 year occurrence. Unless something drastically changes though, tomorrow could be ugly somewhere across North Mississippi and North Alabama. Our best hope is for some convection and storms along the Gulf, which isn't looking likely, to diminish the inflow from the South.

I guess I meant to say his excitement is like Scatterfield. You are correct about ol Dan, he was all over with his stuff.

Don't you be comparing putting sugar in your cornbread to TWC. The two are not comparable.

It be's that way sometimes.

Satterfields washout was when he was on vacation when April 27 happened. Dude missed the biggest event of his career. He never recovered.

During our tornado seasons I look at the outlooks on the Storm Prediction Center's website every morning. They get down in the meteorology technical "weeds" but you can get a good idea of what might be happening in your neck of the woods. Depending on the outlook, I will pay more attention to Spann or one of our local weather guys ( Jason Simpson ) that worked with Spann in Birmingham.

I was wrong about the weather. It looks like it could possibly get bad tomorrow. We have the bunker stocked. Everybody stay safe.
