Well, the black cloud continues to follow me. I've been on a run of crappy luck here lately...I shot the buck and he ran across the field back toward where he came from. He was bulldozing with his head, both front legs, and chest all on the ground for the last 20 yds before he got to the woods. I just knew he'd be laying right inside the wood line, but no! We trailed good blood (what I consider good blood) for a mile and never did find him. We did find this spot where it looked like he'd bedded down. For almost the whole mile, the blood trail would have a basketball-sized spot of blood about every 10 yds. It just pisses me off! I felt SO confident in my shot! May want to put a dog on him man.

A low leg shot will bleed like crazy, but you may never find him. Same thing for a low brisket shot. I would have a dog on him in hopes the dog would find him or bay him.

Fur Jr. and I are watching a little 15 acre green field. Maybe the cool snap has just one horny headed deer ready to walk out. I sure want him to get his first buck this year.

I'm sitting on a road in an 8 year old pine thicket. Hopefully something shows itself. Finally have a decent wind for this stand. Good luck guys and congrats to all the Yankees on the kills. Can't wait for the rut here in LA.

Fine bucks, guys!!!! Congrats to y'all!
I decided to come back to the same field as yesterday. We had a big deer come in after it got too dark to id it. But, pretty certain by the does actions that were in the field that it was a buck. Maybe he will arrive a little earlier today!

Can anyone recommend a tracking dog in the western Winston County area? Our property is near Natural Bridge...I will not be here tomorrow, but my Dad could take the tracker and dog to look for my buck tomorrow

I FINALLY DID IT.
Killed my first ever deer this morning at about 9:00. It was a small little doe. Like, real small. But I haven't had a shot at a deer ever while hunting, and it was legal, so I took it. Couldn't be happier. One of the best feelings ever.
It's at the processor now. Can't wait for some tasty sausage and burger. I'll try to post some pictures up when I get a chance, although I may get laughed off the forum...
Ready to get back out there next weekend and try to get a good size doe or maybe even a buck if I'm lucky. I caught the sickness!
