Need help/Suggestions:

When I mash the starter to crank the 4 wheeler, I heard a "thump" sound only coming from where the battery is. Tried several other times and all i got was a "thump" sound. Engine doesn't turn over. Charged battery for a couple hours on trickle charger put it back in and cranked fine for a couple days. Tried cranking it this morning it wouldn't crank. I took battery out and charged the battery with trickle charger and it only took about 30 minutes for green light to come on indicating battery charged. Odd?
Will let battery stay on trickle charger overnight and put battery in tomorrow.
Any ideas on what may be happening and what to do?

Sounds like the battery has crapped out to me.

Did you buy a $40 battery or a $100 battery? The cheap ones aren't worth a flip.

It could be the starter locking up. Put the battery back on, if it doesn't turn over, tap on the starter with a hammer. Tap, not whack.

It was about $70.00 at Battery Mart in Columbus. I will give it a tap in the morning.

Make sure you have a good connection to the battery. If there is corrosion on the terminals, you will not get a good connection-It won't crank and it will not charge. Remove the seat and try wiggling the cables when it won't crank. If it don't turn over at all, your battery is bad.

Most stock Honda batteries will run 7-10 years. The cheap Wal-Mart batteries will run about one. Been there and done that.

got a 2000 350es changed out oem battery 2 years ago, since then couple times a year it needs to be jumped off, crank mine once a week just to be sure. My guess it is the battery.

Next time it doesn't start jump it off. If it jumps off its the battery.

Battery charged all night on trickle charger. Put it in after church and it cranked 1st time. Turned it off and tried cranking it again. Would not crank. Got the same "thump". Tapped on motor and not starter and it cranked right up. Let it run a few minutes. Cut it off and tried it again. No crank just thump. Tapped on starter and it cranked right up.

What now?

Check all the connections at the starter first If they are all tight, put a starter on it

It's the starter. Mine did exact same thing. Tap the starter, I bet it cranks. Gotta get a new one

I can tap anywhere on the motor and it will crank. Very odd.

How long would you say tapping on it to crank might last? I hate playing Russian roulette in the woods but a little short on cash right now.

How difficult to change out a starter yourself?

Cost of a new starter?
