I think I want a 25-06 so I can use it to deer hunt if I want but is there anything about a 22-250 that makes it so much better to go ahead and make the investment? Thanks for the input

i think you'd be better off with the ought 6. it is as close to a light magnum that you can get. the .22-250 is best left for neck shots if you're trying for distance.

.243 just on ammo availability. Not likely to find either of these rounds at Wally World.

25-06 lot better for deer,22-250 for varmints.

22.250 is devastating on small game if you like seeing things absolutely disintegrate get 22.250. If you wanna deer hunt some to better go with 25.06

I vote .243. Varmit ammo is easy to come by. Kills deer just fine.
No government employees were harmed in the making of this mess.

Thanks for the inputs, Another question, what kind of scope for 22-250 for long distance shooting 300 yrds and longer ?

the best you can afford. leupold, zeiss, meopta. zeiss has the conquest 3-15x42. leupold in a 2.5-8x36.

Model seven 22-250 with adjustable range scope. My uncle can hit them in the eye with the thing. Not me my uncle but still it even being possible is crazy accurate. I use a 270 short and pop them in the neck

I have both and enjoy using them for different styles of hunting. The 22-250 is a great plot gun. If you have plenty of time to pick your shot, that's the gun to take. Cut overs & power lines will be better suited for the 25-06. A nice round with plenty of thump at a good distance. As with any gun...shot placement is the name of the game. I just enjoy the light recoil & being able to still be looking through the scope to see the animal react as the bullet hits

Thanks for the inputs, Another question, what kind of scope for 22-250 for long distance shooting 300 yrds and longer ? If you going longer than 300 go up to the 4.5-14 range, works great, I've shot to 800 with no problems and I am good for further.
If I agreed with you, we'd both be wrong.

Some may disagree but I truly enjoy hunting with my 22-250 for deer..granted it's not going to leave the blood trail of most other caliber but I haven't had a single problem finding the deer I've shot in the shoulder most run barely 40-50yds neck shots they drop right there...but that's just my two cents and not saying the 06 is a bad choice either.
