We love Helena, but is going to be hard to get acreage at a reasonable price. I work downtown and doekiller is right, the drive is around an hour with traffic. Having said that, I gladly drive that to live in the community and have the schools we have.

Springville or Odenville would be my choice personally. I live in Moody which is just SW of odenville. I feel like im pretty central to everything. Hunting, fishing, town, shopping for the wife, etc.

My wife and I are from Louisiana, about an hour southeast of Baton Rouge. We moved to Gulfport, Ms 5 years ago for her job. She has been doing consulting on the side and has been working a few jobs at St Vincent Hospital in Birmingham and was offered a job there. We are still looking into it. She is familiar with the traffic while in town but doesn't know how it is coming in from other areas.
I lease a 230 acres in Meridian, Ms that is just for the boys to hunt. I never hunted it myself or any adult. I only let kids hunt it. Love getting the youngsters into the outdoors. If I can find a piece of land to put a couple stands on for them, I'll get rid of the lease. As far as joining a club, no thanks. Done that and don't care for the drama. See more deer hunting public land anyway. I'm kind of a loner when it comes to hunting. lol
When we get settled in, we are gonna have to have a big cajun cook out. And bring y'all bows so we can sling a few arrows in the yard. Keep the replies coming. They are very helpful.

Not a whole lot there. Nicknamed trashford. Meth is the drug of choice. Hayden is nicer. Helena estate lots are $10k/acre and rising. Check out gardendale and mt olive if you want the country feeling but close to town.

My parents live in the Blount Springs area north of Hayden. It is 35 miles from their door to St. Vincents.
That area is really pretty, Blount County has lower taxes and the commute is easy time wise.

Not sure how much land might be available, but there are some deer out that way. Drug problems are everywhere, so not sure you can get away from that, especially in more rural areas. Areas around Cullman have the same problems.

Jasper Area is where I live. Good schools and plenty of land around. As someone stated earlier, not a bad drive at all on I-22. My wife commutes to Children's Hospital everyday and says its an easy ride.

I might have the place your looking for Odenville/Friendship/Springville area. I'm next to Shoal Creek. Easy access to I-20 and I-59 depending on which way you want to go. I just have not taken the time to list it yet. I purchased a place on the Lake where Im back and forth. I have lived and built houses in Helena, McCalla, and a few others. Having said that, my goal was to find a place in the Country (Unincorporated- Do what I want) to raise my kids, and hunt out the back door if I wanted too that was private with no one behind me....just like you. The property is land locked with 100 acres surrounding it by a mountain. I have a 3bdr/3bath full basement, 15 acre brick house in the Odenville/Friendship/Springville area. 245k as is, and in no rush to sell if interested. When I list it, the price will increase.
