won't hurt my feelings AT ALL in I never see that place again!!!

Staurday before last it took 2 pounds and some change to win a tourney. This past Sat. we had our club tourney there and it took just a hair over 5 pounds to win. Big fish was 2.2 lbs. Just on the other side of the dam(Bankhead) it took 20pounds to win and BF was 9.3 lbs. Amazing what a Dam will do...

Strange. I've fished Bankhead plenty of time, but I have never fished Holt. I'd imagine that they must be a lot alike right?

I was wandering how the tournament ended up. I fished the Saturday before with real good conditions and did not take a bite.

Given that and the weather conditions, I figured that Holt would not offer much post front either, I thought my odds were better chasing turkeys.

Did you and Heavy fish together? Who won it?

William they are really nothing alike. Hard to explain but during the summer 7lbs will usually get you in the money in the wildcat tournies out of Deer Lick. You can get dinked to death at times but if you can get a head over 3lbs you have done something. Target the spots if you want to catch fish.

MarkBama, do not get discouraged. How many times a year do you fish Holt? You are right you can get dinked to death there. There are plenty of fish in that lake, and some big spots. I usually dont do well there either but my uncle and cousin wearem' out there. I cant give away secrets but Ican say it is better when Bankhead is putting water in and Holt is pulling it out. Hang in there and fish it a few times more a year espically in the winter.

Yes, I had to fish with the handicap again. Heavy never even set the hook Sat. It was tough.

William, Holt is alot different than Bankhead. Look wise it reminds me of Jordan. You can run Dam to Dam in about 25 mins. and there are some Giant spots in there.... I just can't catch em'.

bigguy is right about the water at Holt. It is almost like fishing a different lake when their moving water. Bad thing is that most of the time the run the turbines during the week and leave it dead on the weekends. They had a turbine running Sat along with the 20mph. winds and we still couldn't put anything together. There are some really good fisherman in that club that are from that area and consider Holt their "home lake" and said that this is the worse they've seen it.

We fish the remains of the old lock16 with a Sworming hornet fish head spin tipped with a zoom fluke(smokin shad) and can usually load the boat.

I've caught fish in the past using a similar presentation with a fluke on old16, but lately...nothing!!

One thing that I noticed about Holt that I've never seen there in the past was this slimey green moss. I was dragging up this crap with crankbaits, spinnerbaits and jigs all over the lake. Thats never happened to me before on Holt. Don't know if this is affecting the fishing or not but somethings definately changed down there.

One things for sure, I'll be headed thru the lock next time I have to fish there . Good thing lockthru is premitted in or club on those two lakes.

I am planning on being at Mitchell in April. That is unless I have a turkey that is giving me a hard time. I should be there.
