As most of y'all know I spent all of last week at the camp. The weather was decent at the first part of the week but warmed right back up and the SE winds kicked up again. I had a great time and seen quite a few deer over the course of the week. There's still a lot of acorns on the ground. Opening weekend I got to spend some time with the guys at the club and had an awesome opening weekend hanging out them. Saturday afternoon my buddy took a nice buck. Sunday even rolls around and every one is leaving I find out that my buddy's son is out of school for the entire week and my buddy has to work. So I told him that if his son would like to stay and hunt I'd be happy to hunt with him. After talking to his wife they agreed to leave him there with me. We had a great time hunting and hanging out. He is a really good, very mature for his age, kid and I couldn't have asked for a better hunting buddy. Wednesday rolls around and he has to go home for the thanksgiving festivities and my wife comes down Wednesday night. We wake up Thanksgiving morning to hunt before she leaves to go see her family. I couldn't decide on where I wanted to go so I went in blind to an area I haven't scouted. I find a nice ridge and set down looking at the bottom below me. As the sun is coming up I decided to grunt. Before I could get the second grunt out I hear deer running. 3 small bucks and a nice 8 point come in. After a few minutes I get my shot on the 8 point. I propped my rifle on my knee, took aim and took my shot. Deer hits the ground and tries to get back up. By the time I chamber another round and get back on him he is already done. He was my first deer with my new "Shawty" 308 and my first with the suppressor. He ended up weighing in at 212lbs. It took me and my wife a little over 2 hours to get him out of the steep holler. Finally got him up to where we could get the truck to him and took a few pictures. I skin him out and my wife leaves to go to her family's house for dinner. I go out that afternoon with my new 6.5 creedmoor rifle I had built and figured I'd break them both in with their first deer on the same day. About 4:20 a few does come out in to the field. I set my bags up and dialed my scope back down to 100yds and picked the biggest doe out. My gun is rock solid setting there so I pick my shot and bang. She hits the ground and never moves. First deer with my other new rifle and my second deer with the suppressor. I load her up and take her back to camp, skin her out and put her on ice along with my buck from that morning. I sit back and relax the rest of the evening. A few of the guys start rolling in and we enjoy the rest of the holiday weekend. I kinda took it easy after that and slept in a morning or two and sat on some green fields to watch some deer.i got up yesterday morning, cleaned up, packed up and headed home. I got to enjoy some quality time with family and friends and enjoy the good Lord's creation and the man upstairs blessed me with a nice buck and some meat for the freezer.

Here is a couple of pictures of the buck. 212lbs the biggest bodied deer I've killed in Alabama so far. The 150gr fusion performed just as it should have. It broke through the shoulder, through the lungs, hit the back of the off side shoulder and lodged under the hide. The shock of the bullet was devastating.

sounds like a great week! congrats on the buck! Heard you mention before that you hunt around barbour county some. I think people in this area are going to see an increase in body weights this year due to a serious bumper acorn crop. Both bucks killed on our club in barbour/Russell county this year so far were 210 and 220lb. I definitely think were going to see some 240/250 lb'rs this year.
