That guy is VERY lucky to be alive!!!
There are way too many alternative methods to collapsing/demolishing those type structures to have placed a human life, not to mention a very expensive piece of equipment, in harms way like that!!!

I had a meeting yesterday with Pell City personnel. Apparently, the guy set the explosives and the stack didn't fall. He then reloaded with more explosives - still didn't fall. He didn't have any more explosives and and based on what I was told, in the contract - the city had to provide a track hoe.
After falling the smokestack - the guy had a short press conference, went to city hall and got his check and left, leaving a very damaged track hoe.

News said they tried to explode it twice and failed. They had the wrong crew. The operator's daughter was watching on and thought he was done.

i'm not an engineer but I understand physics. I could see this coming. And this was done under the eye of a decent-sized city with multiple decision makers?!?!?
You would think that somewhere in that group of decision makers would have been a country boy redneck with brains and common sense to have a better solution! I mean that in the most respectful way! Hell, I'm a country boy red neck and proud of it!
