Didn't have cell phone service yesterday afternoon but I wanted to post this ...
I settled in around 2:30 PM about 20 ft up my tree overlooking a food plot. I was facing out over the plot on the edge of a hardwoods pocket at the base of a mountain. The cloud cover was fairly thick and it was getting dark pretty fast. Fog had begun to settle in and I could hear squirrels and turkeys in the area.
About 4:30 PM I hear a crunch probably 15 yards behind me. I froze and waited ... A few seconds later the whole danged woods on either side of me and behind me lit up with deer. They were right on me so I couldn't move. Two fawns came right up to my tree and started sniffing every spot where I'd layed my gear down while setting up. A large doe, obviously their mamma, had stopped about 20 yards to my left, in a thicket area and she was watching me like a hawk. I couldn't move or I'd surely scare them off so I did the only thing I could do ... I sat there and watched these beautiful critters all around me rooting around in the leaves while the mamma stood there diligently watching me intently.
After 5 or 10 minutes I decided that I'd better at least try to get a shot. I started moving very slowly to swing my bow towards that mamma doe. Nope, she immediately started stomping her front left hoof. Within 2 seconds all I could see was white flags running back up the mountain.
Not a kill but certainly a successful hunt, I loved just sitting there watching them. I don't wanna derail this LFTT so I'll post a thread to see what yall's ideas on what to do in this situation are.
Good luck and be safe! Rocket out
I don't want to pass quietly into the night. I want to slide in sideways kickin and screamin. Life really is awesome ... Soak it up while you can ...

to see what yall's ideas on what to do in this situation are. Not much pisses me off more than getting busted by an old doe. I try and wait as long as possible and be as still as possible. If they start acting all crazy, I try and wait for that doe to put her head down or turn and walk off, then I draw and shoot if possible. Killed several this way. Just my $0.02

Set up in the hardwoods on another swamp chestnut. A nannerhead needs to screw up and commit suicide.

I'm back strapped in for the afternoon hopefully catch something moving through today. Truthfully I'm more excited about tomorrow morning then this afternoon. I'll try to post pics later but this is my first trip in the woods since purchasing the game plan tree stand system the thing is awesome and makes toting the stand much more comfortable.

I'm in the swamp chestnut aisle of the store. 4 big trees in front loaded with nuts. Lots of droppings around trees. More scattered down the river bank. I'm sitting 50 yds from the Succranochee. Had a deer coming in as I was setting up climber. Just trotted off not too concerned. Got a 3 year old clear cut to the south about 200 yds. Wind is light and variable. Mainly NE to SE. Perfect!!

I'm on a hardwood ridge above a field that's on the Tallapoosa River. Gonna whack a doe if given the chance.
