It's windy but at least it's not raining. And it's cooler. A good many trucks coming in from Joseph spring. I'm in a saddle on an old logging road that's grown up. There are several good ribs and some scrapes on the logging road. Steep on both sides and thick on top.

The hog was killed not very far from the top check station on 500 rd.

Seriously, I know the weather was bad.....
But, there were a lot of hunters in the woods on a lot of acres!!
Do folks really feel that the population is so large that it warrants a 'Special' hunt??
It sure sounds like very few were seen. And, only a handful killed.

I heard the reason they had this hunt was to try and give people a chance to hunt the rut.I guess they figured wrong.

FIFY This was not to reduce the population Danny, otherwise does would have been legal. We are trying to get people in the woods, hunting. It may not be the best in everyone's opinion but the hunters we encountered had a positive opinion about the hunt. Rut timing aside, they enjoyed the early opportunity.

I do agree with making Public Land hunts more attractive.
But, honestly, I feel that the Season timing that is already I place is plenty long enough; if not maybe too long.
I am SO glad that I don't have to make these decisions. Obviously, I would not be good at it! LOL

I am SO glad that I don't have to make these decisions. Obviously, I would not be good at it! LOL People that can only afford to hunt public land damn sure appreciate any extra days they can hunt (non bow hunter obviously).
There is 2 different high fence. 1 small and one big! Mine was free range in the big pen and was not a breeder buck. Why does it have to be twisted around??

I have never understood the logic behind 3 1/2 months of unrestricted bow hunting on our Public Lands while limiting the gun hunters to only a handful of days the entire Season! Put harvest restrictions on the gun hunters, if needed. But, allow them the opportunity to hunt!

I enjoyed the early hunt. Can't help the weather. But the past couple of years I would have been surprised not to see a deer. This year I'm shocked to see a deer. The sightings are down posibly due to the lack of acorns. But I figured they would move more looking for food.

something needs to be done about coyotes.Thats the bottom line.The only thing good about hogs, is the coyotes will eat the little ones and loose interest on the deer and small animals for a day.
I hunt in ga and ala and I have seen a huge decrease across the board.
Just my opinion.

I enjoyed the hunt, but it would have been nice to see some deer or at least some deer sign, no buck sign and only 4 or 5 tracks, walked several miles but better than staying home

Saw two does this morning. They were moving pretty quick so I was hoping that big boy was behind them but no such luck. Glad I got to hunt this one. Doubt I'll get back for anymore hunts.
