Couldn't have said it better myself. I think he is intentionaly trying to sink the ship. Markbama I'm fairly confident I know where you work. It's within a few miles of where I live and I have 3 friends that were part of that layoff. I know it would be terrible to be in your shoes and I hope you guys are able to pull out of it and call them back to work.
Another unanswered question. I'm in the commercial trucking industry. All goods and products sold today were on a truck at some point of it making it on the shelf. We have broken some records this year. In sales and service. Makes little sense that with all these layoffs people would still be buying trucks. To make your point with China selling us all the steel, one of our biggest customers had bought around 100-150 trucks this year. That's just one. We have several other big customers buying trucks as well. One thing they all have in common is that they all, for the most part pull flat bed trailers. What is the bread and butter of those who haul flat bed trailers? Steel! Be it coils, piping, rebar etc. Obviously it's not steel being made by American companies so it has to be coming from elsewhere.
Also as far as EPA goes. The EPA is hammering the commercial trucking industry with all their emission requirements. Has been for a decade. 80% of the repairs we make are emissions related and it's costly. It's Pretty much done away with the lone owner/operator because of the costs of maintaining a modern day commercial truck.
