I fish alot on the main lakes in central alabama. (lay, mitchell,jordan etc.) but i have a small aluminum fishing boat i want to try out this spring. i was thinking about going to some places i've never been. i pass some boat launches on the cahaba on the way to our hunting club. does anyone know if it will be worth my time. or any advice?

I have taken a canoe from the dam in Helena all the the way to Alabama Small Boats on 52. Its about a 3 mile trip down buck creek to the cahaba and another 3 miles to the take out. I caught sevreal spots and red eye bass in the creek but not as good in the river because the water was crystal clear. A friend makes the trip several times a year and does pretty good.

There are some good fish to be caught in the Cahaba. A buddy of mine caught one well over 5 lbs on a buzzbait. I caught one about 3.5 lbs on a 1/8oz spinnerbait. Just down size a little a you'll catch a bunch.

i'm sure the spawning times differ than they do on the big lakes. do you guys know when they really turn on?

I've had better luck fishing below Piper Bridge.Below there the river slows some and gets deeper in places.
