I got my first bow kill opening morning (doe). She was 1/4-ing away a bit and the exit was through her far shoulder. When I got my arrow the broadhead blades were bent a little... so, I'll need to replace those blades.
The broadhead was a 100gr Slick Trick Standard.
My question, is that fairly common for the blades to get roughed up after a kill?

They usually need to be resharpened. I shot a slick trick thru a 2x4 then into a tire 10 times and it held together perfectly other than the blades being dull
We will burn that bridge when we get there

Depends on what it hits (bones vs flesh)
I figured as much... the shoulder exit is what I got mine I imagine.

I don't think I've ever had a Thunderhead 100 bend or break. I don't resharpen my blades, either. I replace them after I shoot them.

Something I've never really understood are these "Let's see what happens when we shoot at ___________ demonstrations". I saw a guy shooting at 1-inch plywood quartering away the other day. Not to my surprise, none of the broadheads performed very well. But guess what...it doesn't matter because its a piece of plywood. An impratical comparison to live flesh. The only way this translates into any useable data is if your deer is wearing plywood armour, has a cinder block for a lung, or has 2x4s for ribs. Now the demos with balistic gel and bones make sense.Anything else is a waste of a good blade.

The only way this translates into any useable data is if your deer is wearing plywood armour, has a cinder block for a lung, or has 2x4s for ribs. Now the demos with balistic gel and bones make sense.Anything else is a waste of a good blade. It makes sense to me to see if a broadhead is as tough as a company makes it out to be. If it will stand up to a 2x4 and a tire then it shouldn't shear blades off when it hits a deer

I totally agree with that, as far as blade damage goes. Good arguement. I just don't think these demonstrations are accurate when it comes to arrow deflection or determining whether or not a mechanical broadhead will open. I know that's not what the original post was discussing, but it got me to thinking about those types on demonstrations in general.
