I've got a small lease (150acres) and it has houses nearby and I use to think when I saw the dogs my hunt was over. I couldn't have been farther from the truth. I new the owners of the dogs and I begged them to keep them penned up during season. In my stand one day and had a doe come barreling down the hill and right behind it was a big black lab. They both ran over the hill and 5 minutes later here comes the lab running back by me at full speed and the doe was right behind him. I watched the 2 play chase for about 45 minutes. That night both buddies thought I was full of it. The following morning 1 of my buddies videotaped the same lab and a dachshund play chase with a doe. Knowing the owners I would never dream of shooting a dog on this place. But I've found that when the dogs are up roaming around it actually helps my hunts out, the dogs will push deer that are bedded up that normally you wouldn't see snd later after the dogs move through the deer come back to bed. The only time I've seen the dogs affect my hunt is when they smelled me and hung out under my stand.
