I'm wondering if, when someone sells them an item, they have to keep records on who sold it to them.

I'm looking for something we think was stolen and pawned by the same person who was taking medication from my home.

Yes, they have to get ID and record all items taken in.

But in order to get the info you must have a police report and most won't give info to the public. They will only deal with a officer

Don't tip them off that it is stolen goods....when you come back it will most likely be gone

Thanks guys, I appreciate the input. We searched every pawn shop in Alabaster, Pelham, Hoover and Hueytown. Basically anywhere I see one I stop.

I figure it's hopeless, but you just never know. It's probably been melted down for the gold.

They have to keep all merchandise in storage for 30 days before it is available to sell or scrap...they also have too keep a list for law enforcement..Buy or pawn ..if they are doing it legally ...

Yes we have to get a state ID. Hold for Alabama is 19 days. So as mentioned above you will need a police report. We are required to file what we have bought or taken in on pawn with the police also.

If it was pawned we have to hold it for 60 days. Buys are 19 days. If the pawn shop got rid of the item before those days were up they would not be in business we are heavily regulated by the banking department.

Do you have to keep a picture of jewelry? Seems that you would have to for identification.

Just description and weights are all that's required for us to take as of now.

Always smart for people to get certified aprassials done on there jewelry one for insurance purposes other it has all the details of said jewelry which makes it easier for the police to find that way.
