OK guys, our "vision insurance" is actually just a discount plan that's not accepted at the optometrist that I really like. I need 2 pairs of glasses, regular lenses (not progressives like I currently wear) for bow and gun shooting/hunting.

Where, in the Madison/Marshall county area am I gonna get the best deal?

Walmart would be my recommendation, but only because of the price.

I deff would not do Wallyworld, unless you like going back 3 or 4 times for them to get the rx correct. The low price suckers folks in the first time, then it's usually downhill from there

Zennioptical.com it's a great website. I used to pay between $200-300 for a pair a glasses which were just plain frames and polycarbonate lens. My sons were in excess of $400 because he has to wear no see bifocals. Since I switched to this site about 4 years ago I pay for simple frames with polycarbonate lenses and transition tinting in the sun with a no glare film for about $50 for mine and my sons are about $100-110. Plus they have 1 yr warranty of glasses due to breakage. You need your prescription and your pupillary distance. Take that info and plug into website and pick your stuff.

Screw wally world, and if you have Bifocals who will measure where they go if you use a website ?

For progressive as well as lined bifocals you need the pd as well as have to measure the fitting height, that's the measurement from the inside bottom of the frame to the center of the pupil. For bifocals the measurement is to the lower lid margin.
Who from the online stores is going to do that and make sure the frame is the correct size and adjust your frames when they are sat on or bent and get out of adjustment,etc..? And who will you call or go to when you rcve your new online glasses and you can't see well or at all out of them?
You really need an Optician, a certified one is all the better.

I've bought numerous glasses for me and my son and have never had a problem. I was just trying to save the guy some money. Besides he said he needed just plain lenses. So the point is moot anyway

I just want regular lenses for my shooting/hunting glasses. This is because they are corrective all the way across the lens. When I shoot, especially my bow, I'm not looking thru the corrective part of my lineless bifocals so I have a LOT of trouble focusing.

Ditto for Zennioptical. I've never had a problem with a prescription from there. Thousands of styles to choose from. I probably have 10+ pairs from there. Sunglasses, safety glasses, transitions, regular glasses... Zero problems. I think the cheapest pair cost me about $12 and the most expensive pair was about $36.

Who adjusts your frames when the new glasses come in? New frames always require an adjustment to fit even close to correctly.

I have always adjusted my frames myself even when I bought my glasses from a optometrist. If you go to some place like the Walmart Vision Center, how much training do you honestly think that chick has that is helping you? I'm not talking about the Doctor, because the doctor is not the one that adjust your frames.

Ordering your glasses from Zenni is not for everyone, but it works out great for me. I have a whole drawer of prescription glasses for what some people pay for a couple pair. I lost a pair of nice prescription sun glasses in the ocean a few weeks ago, but is wasn't a big deal, because I only paid $16 for them and I had two back-up pairs in my condo. I crushed a pair of safety glasses at work, but I only had $24 in them and I had a back up pair in my work gear. In the past I have broken a $250 pair of glasses that I got at the optometrist and it sucked to have to replace them.

I've only had one pair from Zenni break on me [That wasn't my fault.] and they were 2 years old and I wore them all the time. All the pairs I have bought from Zenni have been super nice glasses for unbelievably cheap. If that is something that interests someone then Zenni is the place to go, if not then keep going to your optometrist. I'm not trying to sell anyone on the place, just giving my experience.

Read last week that the best and cheapest was Costco.

Last time I got glasses (the ones on my face) and contacts I went to Target in Jones Valley. I thought they did a good job plus they have a great AAA discount and I got the 5% off by using my wifes "Red Card". I was able to save quite a bit (no insurance) and the Dr was about like the rest of the ones Ive had at much higher end places.

I have ordered from several online places in the past. I've never had any issues. I wear contacts primarily and only need the glasses for first thing in the morning and at night though. For the price, you can't beat it. I've never paid more than $50 for a pair of glasses online. The last time I purchased from a brick and mortar, I paid somewhere in the neighborhood of $250. The glasses that I've purchased online have been just as good as any pair I've ever purchased from a brick and mortar. FWIW, I buy my contacts online as well. Very painless process...and a whole lot cheaper too!
