A buddy of mine's daddy used to gig turtles in ponds, barefooted, so he could find the turtles better. He would walk around in the shallow parts of muddy ponds with a piece of sharpened rebar in his hand. He would find them with his feet or the rebar, then gig them with the rebar. I was invited, but I respectfully declined to go.
