I have a 1yr old lab that isnt drinking much water(atleast it seems that way to me). His water bowl rarely looks like any is missing. When I turn him loose or turn the sprinkler on him, he cant get enough. I have his water in a galvanized bucket. Do you think maybe it gives a bad taste? Im just concerned that in these 100+ degree temps in South Alabama that he isnt staying hydrated.

You don't need a bowl for a lab. You need a tub.

Put 2 or 3 different bowls out. He'll probably use one over the others. Take the other ones up. My lab drinks out of a five gallon bucket. He wont touch the bowl for the little dogs. Make sure its not exposed to the sun and hot as hell.

Same thing here, My 11 month yella pup has a galvanized bowl and don't care for it. He does however like the water faucet and that's where he stands when he's thirsty. He had plastic bowl but, enjoyed chewing on it a little too much.

None of my dogs will drink from a galvanized bucket.

I got one of these waterers and they don't like it. They like a regular metal bowl though.

If it gets thirsty enough he will drink it.

Could be that by the time he needs it the day has already gotten hot. So has the water. During the warm Summer months I use the automatic water bowl you can get at Tractor Supply. They learn to scratch in it, splashing it onto their underside to keep them cool. Thus providing fresh cool water as it fills. Smart rascals they are!

Metal bowl is going to make for some hot water. My lab won't hardly drink or eat unless I stand right there beside him.

Rebelman is right. Shade is the key right now without auto watering bowls the size I mentioned.

very true might be hot water.a lab can get alergies very easy(pollen)even though its not that time of year.my labs wont drink or eat very much when that happens.just a possibilty.probably the hot water theory.
