I've got a friend fishing the bfl tournament coming up on lay. He's been sick and hasn't had time to prefish. I know you guys get stingy when you find something working for you. If anyone one knows what they've been catching them on he'd love to hear it. I saw they've been starting to catch some decent stringers.

Jigs or your favorite piece of plastic to flip in the grass.

I fished from day light friday till 1:00 from above dry branch to cedar creek and my buddy fished sunday down river below narrows to the dam. We both Zeroed flipping grass with plastics and jigs. Threw swimmie jigs and jerk baits and spinner baits with one bite.

I herd the guy who won this weeks tournament and last weeks tournament was the same guy with 22lbs and 20lbs. Most ever one I talk to says the same thing, fishing for heads right now sucks if you are fishing the grass. Some decent fish are being caught on crank baits but I refuse to throw one because I can't stand them. I have never in my life had any real success with one but I just suck when it comes to a crank bait.

Throw Crankbaits on Point or Banks that the wind is blowing on...Also Buzzbaits/Spinnerbaits around the grass...

Are the shoreline weeds dead and matted, or starting to bloom?

Dead, Dead, Dead! The water primrose is starting to grow if you know where to find it.

I've always heard in summer, and seen firsthand a time or two, that if you find a patch of dead-slimy shoreline vegetation in the green live stuff ... toss in a Texas-rigged tube and hang on.

Lay is a very interesting lake. It gets hammered so bad for 10 months. No matter how bad the fishing is its always good for some one. No matter how good it is, it always sucks for others. I guess thats just bass fishing.

To answer your question, YES! and NO! Like I said earlier in a post, I have talked to several people not having any if much success at all catching heads. However its taking 20lbs to win every week. My advise to you is go do some pre-fishing. Throw you favorite lures what ever it may be. What ever you have the most confidence in. Fish it around different types of structure. See what happens. What works today may not work tomorrow and vise versa. So many times I have not gotten bit one day and wore them out the next on the same lure they did not bite the day before.

Just remember no matter what GOD is GREAT and He is all that matters.

It is amazing how lakes can take so much pressure yet still produce great fish.

Lay is a good example. I'm sure Jordon gets pounded, maybe not as much as Lay. Neely Henry is clobbered.

Guntersville is the same way. The midlake area is where most folks fish and most tournament fish are released. Every year it keeps producing ... already several 10s and at least one 12 caught this year.
