A lease next to the lease I'm in hired a professional hog trapper -they came in with big pen traps and such -word is they caught a hundred hogs .

What do you guys think a population of hogs does to a deer herd ?

I know they damage crops -roads and such but the lease I'm in is planted pines and swamp so no damage to speak of there.

I went for over a year and never saw a hog or a deer with corn hitting the ground twice a day in two feed spots a game cam at each spot .
The coons and squirrels seemed to like it.

Do you think hogs kill very many fawns ?

I've hunted places that had hogs. That was my best deer and turkey places. I never noticed an affect on them.

Some of the best places for deer also have the most hogs. That's all I know.

I just seem to have a lease spot that is deerless -even when they trapped hogs -feeders going every few hundred yards -food plots plants for years -just not many deer taken on our lease.

I think coyotes and bears are our problem.
We also have some wild dogs that just roam the region -matter of fact a big dog started barking at me from the road last week when I shot a hog at 3am.

Hogs and deer frequently inhabit the same areas. I do know of a large chunk of riverswamp where the hog numbers have been brought down drastically and it seems to have a positive affect on the local deer herd. There are other herd dynamics that may be part of this equation, most importantly being increased age class. This area seems to be producing much larger deer than it ever has, but there has been a combination of positive herd management activities in which extreme hog number reduction has been one of those variables.

I have seen a wild hog kill and eat a wild goat kid in Hawaii. I guarantee they will eat a fawn.

The hogs have a horrible effect on the deer at my little place in baldwin cty. They showed up 2 seasons ago and my last two deer seasons have been a crap shoot. I personally witnessed on a few occasions how the deer wanted nothing to do with the hogs. The deer spooked very quickly. I've yet to get a pick of a deer and pig together.

We had tons of deer 7 years ago. 5 years ago we started seeing tons of hogs and our hunting got soo bad we dropped the lease. Our last year we killed 3 times more hogs than deer We feel like it was cause of the hogs but who knows

When hogs move into an area where they've never been, deer do not respond well to their presence. Even where hogs have existed for hundreds of years, deer do not typically hang too close.

At our lease on the Tombigbee, all deer would leave food plots a few minutes before hogs showed up knowing they were coming. Sometimes it is almost a given that right at dark they're coming out.

We don't have enough deer to be able to see how they operate around each other.
I'd bet hogs would get aggressive with deer if the deer tried to stay at a feeder.

They definitely have an impact on the deer on my place. They don't have a visual effect on the numbers, but will keep them out of an area for a while.
