Bought a Huntertown Guardian only $169 -$200 to the feds and I'll be quiet as a church mouse for less than $400.
Going to have a gunsmith thread my cz 452 style and a little savage rascal kiddy gun both are 22lr of coarse.

I've got a can on a 452. It's a good platform for a suppressor.

I'm considering having my barrel shortened to 16" and rethreaded.

My 452 has about a 22" barrel add 5" =27" barrel -no way on that.
I'm planning on going 16.5" + 5"Can =21.5" then I'll be only a small amount heavier out front.
Keith ,

Have you ever heard a 17hmr or 22mag shot w/a Can ?
I've watched it on Youtube but really can't tell how loud the magnums would be real world.
I know that when the bullet breaks the sound barrier you get that POP -just wondering how loud it might be compared to a 22lr w/high velocity ammo.
Also does the point of impact change when you take the Can off/on ?

The 17 and 22mag are supersonic and all you'll lose is the muzzle blast. The same is true for your 22 if you don't shoot subsonic ammo. CCI Standard Velocity is very good 22 ammo and stays subsonic. POI usually changes when you add a suppressor. How much varies depending on the suppressor and the host.

I will add that in today's suppressor market the better known manufacturers are building state of the art suppressors. It's truly a market where you "get what you pay for". FRP is one of the most notable area where this is noticeable.

I'm a little slow -what's FRP ?

I have watched many video's comparing suppressors , one video showed three people shooting semi-auto 22lr pistols with different Cans -all same ammo.
They would start shooting taking turns -pop then next shooter -pop then next shooter -pop into the ground so you could hear each pistol shoot 10 times side by side. I could tell very little difference between $400 and $200.
Now I might get the thing and say what a cheap POS -but I doubt it.

These $400-$500+ suppressors are way over priced for what you are getting -a little round piece of tubing with some baffles in it ?
It ain't rocket science to make one that's for sure.

FRP is First Round Pop which is when the first round is fired there is regular air inside the suppressor = 20% oxygen and when that oxygen is burned it adds a noticeable POP to to the first round fired. The next round(s) if fired closely behind the first round will USUALLY be significantly quieter because the O2 is gone from the suppressor. High end manufacturers have gone to great lengths to reduce or eliminate FRP. Lower tier manufacturers don't have the money to chase that science. It IS science.

Those $400 and $500 suppressors are NOT overpriced for what you get and it IS rocket science. I've dropped some coin and I know. I researched diligently for 3 years before I spent my first NFA dollar.

At any rate, I sincerely hope that you are 100% satisfied with your suppressor once the ATF sends the approved Form 4 and you take possession. The NFA game is rarely over with just 1 purchase though wink

FRP -OK .

If this Can makes CCI SV ammo as quiet as CCI Quiet ammo I'll be happy.
I mainly want it to curtail critters off my feeders -the little chewing vermin.
Thanks for the info. and no I won't buy a second suppressor -I'm going to keep saying that over and over to prove you wrong.

James ,

I just looked the oil can Can up -now I feel stupid for buying one instead of sneaking and making one !laf.

I would not, under any circumstances, have one of those oil filter adapters in my possession. The ATF is known to make up the rules as they go.

Wiley only kidding with James - he has provided a lot of info. to this thread -info. in the way of comedy that is.
I'm all but clueless about an oil filter other than seeing it and a thread about a Mag light suppressor -neither of which I watched.

James did sent me a PM about how to quiet a shot using a hollow log -same log could be used as a mineral lick if needed . This guy know a lot of stuff.. shocked
