Sounds good. I figure I'll sling some in a couple weeks.

Dayum. I'm hoping to pull about 60 pounds off one hive tomorrow. Looks like the flow is about over in Birmingham area.

Got one full capped super, one mostly full and partially capped super. Hoping this rain will give one more little burst of nectar to finish off the second box.

I put supers on about the end of April. Checked today and there ain't a drop of honey in either one. They haven't touched the frames. Plenty of bees in the super but I guess they are ALDeer bees and just hang out drinking beer and not doing anything.

Sucks. Did you start with drawn comb or blank foundation?

blank foundation. They were filling up the brood chamber and we had stopped feeding and I thought they were going to fill 'em up but I checked about 3 hours ago and nothing.

Dustin are you running single deep hive bodies or double deeps?

That's odd for sure then. You're going to need that super full of comb next spring in a bad way. I think if I were in your shoes I would try feeding 1:1 syrup and see if they will draw and fill comb in the honey super. They will need that to overwinter on. When I make a gallon of syrup, I put a "slosh" of apple cider vinegar and a couple of shakes of lemon juice in it. Make is more nectar like. Do you by chance have a queen excluder between the deep and the super?

I started the season with 1 drawn super, now have 2.5, as soon as I extract will be feeding the heck out of them to try and have 6 drawn for next year, and maybe get some fall honey if I'm lucky to make mead this winter.

I do have a queen excluder on them. We were feeding but they weren't taking it so we quit. I'll stir up another batch and see what happens.

Dustin. I'm going to chime in here and say what I think Fur is about to. take the excluders out. I had the same trouble early this year. 30 years ago I ran excluders on everything. But I got back into beekeeping in 2014. My bees didn't like them. I moved the QE and he'd a big difference in short order.

Dustin. I'm going to chime in here and say what I think Fur is about to. take the excluders out. You said exactly what I was going to say, except you were nicer about it. LOL Dustin, excluders are great at doing exactly what they did for you. They get called honey excluders as often as they do queen excluders. Bees are hesitant to move up into a new box with foundation anyway and the excluder makes it worse. Put the excluders in storage. The only time I use them is when I'm making queen cells or when I can't find a queen and shake bees out on top of one. Is there anyone in your area that you can get a drawn frame of comb to go in each super from? Just one drawn comb would pull those bees up into that box. When you mix up your sugar water again, spray a couple frames in each super with the sugar water. That will pull the bees up to them. Also you could try putting one super below the brood box and see if that helps them draw it out. It's the nature of a bee to start at the top and move downward. We screw all that up with the way we do things. The lemon juice will help get them started on the feed. If you have lemongrass oil, skip the juice and put some LGO in the syrup. Not much, just a few drops.

Fur, Where did you say to buy the LGO? my wife buys some to rub on sore muscles. That and some spearmint oil and some deep heat works real good. But it's about $30 per 1/4 ounce bottle. Where she buys it.

I bought it at an herb shop. I don't know much about the LGO but I've read to get the good stuff, not the aromatherapy kind.
