The way I see it you have a couple options.

1) spend ____$ on a K&N and have fun installing it all the while day dreaming about the neck jerking torque your otherwise stock engine is about to make with this magic new device. Drink a few beers, beat your chest, get greasy and look at your truck like you did your wife on your honeymoon night. Pretend its somehow "different" and "better" having gone through this massive transformation and just pray your Big 10 account can handle all the rubber thats about to be obliterated. Get in and drive it around convincing yourself how much faster it is because it costed XX and it must be better. Wheel into the driveway sideways, get out, slam the door and grab your crotch. Punch your wife in the hoohah cause after-all, your are a MAN. Text your friends.

2) remove your stock air filter and drive it around the block a few times. Stomp on it and spend a crisp $10 bill in gas. See how it will really act with a "superflow" K&N filter because after all whats less restrictive than no restriction, right?

Spend said money on fishing tackle.

To me, either is a win/win.

Please show me the research that says cold air hurts fuel efficiency.

First article that pops up. The science is sound and is on about every type of website out there about fuel mileage.

Sorry but that doesn't convince me.. I need some actual experts and test study results. Until then I will still believe the real facts.

I will say that you have to do more than just an intake... Full exhaust is the other piece to the puzzle that will help.. Its not a lot but it does help.

The real reason that I have one is so that I can wash my filter oil it and reinstall it at every oil change.

In my experience with the k & n system full exhaust and regular maintenance (plugs wires quality oil and filter) all contribute to me being able to average 12 mpg in 2001 Dodge Ram 1500 with 4'' of lift 4.10 gears and 35'' tires.
