For those of us who haven't scored yet (cough cough me couch cough), what are your favorite late season strategies? Especially once the hens start to finish up
Killed one last year that I roasted the night before on the last weekend, and ideally that'd happen this weekend but if not, what do y'all suggest.
Worst case I'll be deer hunting for turkeys

now is the time to cover ground, more than any other. Cover a lot of ground, all day long, and call every couple hundred yards.

I wouldnt go all crazy with the runnin & gunnin tactics. Play it cool. Set up where you feel comfortable. Nestle in and be patient. Cover your self up in leaves while scratching in the leaves like turkey do. Its just like calling. How many times have you heard of people moving too early and spooking birds when they got up? More times than not the Tom was there they just werent patient enough. Scratch, soft call, then scratch more, and WAIT! Its been working for us and I hope it works for you.

Use locator calls and have a spot picked out to set up Before you do get one to gobble, with all the foliage they will be closer than you think and they could be on you before you are ready.
Well, the way I see it is there's just too many assholes On a good day there's a bunch of assholes in here. On a bad day there's too many assholes in here.

I could have limited out this year, but I'm trying to shoot old warriors, not two year olds. We think we have record book Toms on our place and are more about managing the birds for age.

I like to walk and call, spacing out the calling with breaks in the yelps just like and ole hen... With some cutting thrown in.. And listening during the yelp break for gobbles..seems to work fairly well for me.. But i usually cover alot of ground and its national forest

As turkeys have a range of about 4 square miles with the right habitat in south bama..but letting them go or not is your personal preference.. Hard to tell how old he is unless you can see his spurs !! Chufas and clover help to keep them close !

Nothing wrong with shooting old deer and Toms in our club, its what we do I guess it's your land and you can hunt it,and shoot what ever you want.I hope you kill one with 3 inch spurs, but the op was looking for some advice for late season hunting, not a trophy hunting tactic. If you want to lean up against a tree and cover yourself with leaves go ahead pal,but mean while I and many others will be slinging turkeys across our backs...LOL my friend.
I would rather be turkey hunting

Wouldt be surprised if the state record bird came off us in the next two to three years. We dont shoot immature birds for the hope that we can reach that goal. Its just our clubs goals and we are all on the same page.

Whildbill, your schtick is getting old. Weren't you a part of thread where the clown was talking about in getting punched in the face for trespassing? I would like to hear your method for field judging wild turkeys. Please enlighten us.
