Our birds have been really quiet. When ATLBRAVOS got his 1st bird we didnt hear ANY gobbles around us,..and only 1 old bird in a drainage a mile away gobbled 2 times.
However, having seen a strutter there the day before I knew there were some around so we waited them out and just sat where we could see most of the field and called. Within 30 minutes we saw 7-8 hens and a gobbler in the field.
After they left we stuck in there. We could hear spitting and sonething walking in a hollow we couldnt see. Sure enough, 2 hens started to cross the field...afer getting out there aways..we thought they were alone when a strutter stepped out following them and he shot him.
I called right at both those gobblers...and all they would do is strut harder.
Dang things wouldnt gobble.
We have 3 cameras out at different areas of the field too..and we only got one lone gobbler and just a hen or two all year on camera...but a TON a coyotes and a bobcat too.
There wasnt even much tracks around...but we went there for the opener and he shot that one..then went back the next day after the one we saw first...and doubled!
They were there...just not talking much..though the second day I did get the one bird to gobble 5 times when he was within 100 yards.
