Just read somewhere that Alabama may offer Gregg Marshall 3.5 million to be basketball coach. Just a rumor going around but I hope it's true. It would mean at least Bama is trying and willing to pay whatever it takes to getting a winning program.

Ryan Brown from JOX has said he heard it from a former SEC basketball coach I believe.

His name has been at the top of the list, but I don't know if he has an offer yet.

I like Shaka Smart from VCU. Cool name, heck of a recruiter, good motivator, and proven winner. We at least need to ask him.

Is it wrong of me to just not care? I just don't see things changing with Alabama basketball. I mean it used to be fun to watch, but now watching is like getting your eyeballs clawed out by a feral cat. With the emphasis on football with kids from the South, the talent pool just isn't there like it is in the Northern states. The really good ones from the South are going to Duke, Kentucky, North Carolina, etc....
Bama basketball is in the same boat as Kentucky football. If you are a stud football player which is more appealing, Bama or Kentucky. The same holds true in basketball in reverse.
I just don't ever see it changing.

but now watching is like getting your eyeballs clawed out by a feral cat. That would be a lot more exciting and less painful than watching Alabama Basketball.

Marshall would be a moron if he left Wichita State for Alabama or any other SEC school except for Kentucky or maybe Florida. He is paid well, has outstanding support and facilities, and is the man where he is. Why leave that and be in the shadow at Alabama? (or in the shadow of any football program) Doesn't make good sense.
If he ever leaves it will be for a top 10 type basketball job at a real basketball school.

3.5 to 4 million reasons are being talked about. Why couldn't he build a basketball team up as good or better than Florida?

Florida sucked in hoops and Spurrier was running roughshod when Donovan came in and turned it into a championship team.
There's not a single (publicly known) reason why Marshall or some other coach couldn't do it at Alabama. They have the financial resources to dedicate, if they're truly desirous of a top-caliber team, and no doubt would do whatever is needed.
I suspect there are some boosters who don't give two chits about hoops just like at Auburn, though. They only care about two things -- football and football money -- and everything else is just effluvia, which is pretty damned sad. Maybe this will be the time Alabama hires a top coach, makes a true commitment to back up its oft-stated proclamations and ends up with a quality hoops team.
If not, they should just effin' quit playing basketball instead of pretending. Auburn, too.

You realize Auburn spent like 85 million on a new arena? They also hired Pearl. I would say Auburn stepped up the commitment. Florida sucked in hoops and Spurrier was running roughshod when Donovan came in and turned it into a championship team.

You know the sad thing is Bama is number 2 in the sec in a lot of basketball stats like from over the years. Crazy what the 70's, 80's, and early 90s did for us overall.
God, Country, Corps, Family, and Alabama Football.
