Those officers knew what they were being baited in to. They didn't bite. Let a drunk try that and it won't end the same. That said I am with bill on this. Roadblocks violate citizens rights against illegal search and seizure. I look at this much like I look at NYC's stop and frisk policy. Today they are looking for drunks, but who is to say they won't be looking for gun owners tomorrow. Just my two cents.

 My Mom, Martha Ann Wingo Hinton, taken from us on January 8tb 2014 at the hands of an intoxicated driver. She was sitting still in a parking spot in the parking lot of a Wendy's restaurant in Mobile at 1235 on a Wednesday afternoon. He went unresponsive and left the roadway striking her vehicle at 49 MPH. She was killed instantly. We never saw her again because she was so messed up. The intoxicated driver has only spent two hours in jail. He was found guilty of manslaughter and sentenced to 10 years to serve 33 months on February 25th. We were notified Friday that he is requesting a new trial and now we have a hearing on that Wednesday.

4th Amendment prevents illegal search and seizure from the government. Check out the Patriot Act and get back with me on whether we still have that right.
I think they'll try hard to do the same thing with the 2nd amendment, heck they already are.

Actually, yes, drunks do have rights. It's not them I'm worried about though. What we're talking about is the basis of the entire constitution, so yeah. I hate drunk driving like the plague, and I think they're absolute scum, but in the video the guy was just following the rules in a unique way. X6001. Very sorry about your mother.

We can't pick and choose which parts of the Constitution we want law enforcement and government to abide by just because we think it will help us individually or keep us safer. I understand it's an emotional issue but if we all aren't afforded equal protection under the law then everyone's rights are subject to compromise in the name of safety.

That's because the government told you that, and you accept it. He's right. It is a licensed privilege and government has a right to patrol the roads for public safety but where the violating of rights occurs is through illegal search. Does anyone remember the news story a few years back about Louisiana State Troopers stopping out of state folks with nice cars and illegally confiscating cash and vehicles just because they wanted them? If the citizens knew the reputation of that force , video camera and a knowledge of their rights I imagine they would have been able to keep from having their rights trampled on. It's not a perfect system but it is designed to protect us from an over zealous government more so than to protect us from unsafe situations.

i guess i'm weird, but i like check points. i like to interact with police and i tell them how much i appreciate what they're doing. i haven't had my "rights" violated yet.

I like to drink. I drive a lot. I just don't do both at the same time.
1. My job gives me a company truck so why would I jeopardize my safety or my companies?
2. My family depends on me for survival. I'm the only income
3. I love my wife and kids and don't want to have to see them from behind bars or my kids see me that way.
4. It can wait. Or call a ride. It's not that hard to understand. There's been nights I've stayed out late and I called my wife to come get me. She wasn't happy but id rather deal with her than the law.
