Either believe the word(all of it) or why even bother. If the bible speaks against something that's final. I guess its OK for gays to marry because God loves them too huh? There are too many so called Christians that are lukewarm or even cold. You can't live your life as you wish and in the end expect all will be OK.

I believe I'd be more concerned about a church leader not seeking the wisdom and advice and prayers of his fellow church leaders and elders first, and then about whether divorce is or should be an issue. Isn't the church supposed to be the Body of Christ, supportive, wise and able to at least be leaned upon in times of trouble? Yet this church leader didn't do that.

As for divorcing because of a disabled spouse living in a nursing home, I don't have any respect for someone who does that and think it's pretty low-class. Guess he must have glossed over that "sickness and in health, 'til death do us part" portion of the vows he took before God.

Clem,
These were the first concerns voiced.

The thing for you to do is to go to that person and lovingly voice your concerns. You might find that you have a broken and confused man on your hands that is doing all he knows to make his life whole again. Why wouldn't the Church want to help restore such a person? It's often been said that Christians are the only family that kill their wounded. No wonder he tried to divorce privately.

My biggest concern is the thought that he is now unworthy to be in leadership. If you are looking for perfect leaders you will always be disappointed. The only reason to remove him is if he can no longer function in the role he needs to fill but even then it might be more of a problem with the congregation than with him.

You really won't know how to handle it until you talk it out with him. Possibly the pastor already has talked it out and you need to ask him first. Remember Jesus told us to get the 2X4's out of our own eyes first if we wanted to remove specs from the eyes of others. Are my secret sins, or your secret sins worse than his open divorce?

1 Timothy 3:12 - Let the deacons be the husbands of one wife, ruling their children and their own houses well.

IMO: There are to many pastors, deacons, preachers what ever you want to call them. Men that are suppose to be men of god that spend the better part of there lives attempting to teach the word of god that are afraid to tell people what the bible actually says because they afraid of stepping on to many toes. So they interpret it in such a way as not to make to many people mad. So the pews are full each Sunday. This will in turn result in a lot of surprised people on judgement day. Personally I suggest you read it for yourself and take it at it's word. I am not judging just stating my opinion.

Matthew 5:32
But I tell you that anyone who divorces his wife, except for marital unfaithfulness, causes her to become an adulteress, and anyone who marries the divorced woman commits adultery.

Matthew 19:9
I tell you that anyone who divorces his wife, except for marital unfaithfulness, and marries another woman commits adultery.

1 Corinthians 7:10-11 To the married I give this command (not I, but the Lord): A wife must not separate from her husband. But if she does, she must remain unmarried or else be reconciled to her husband. And a husband must not divorce his wife.

Those passages pretty much sum up my opinion on the subject.

So what does that make a man that's been divorced twice but asks god to forgive him of his sins everyday?

A double adulterer..... according to the scripture...

How many times have you looked upon a woman other than your wife with lust in your heart? So based on your answer to that question, how many times have you been guilty of adultery? I'm not making light of the issue of divorce but most of us seem to forget that part of the sermon and only focus on the issue of divorce...

Rocketman, No. According to the way I interpret the Scripture, neither one sinned by remarrying the 2nd or 3rd time, That the way you interpret it also?

I Agree. I/we/you/HE cannot control others. Therefore we should not be condemned for their wrongs and our willingness to heal and find happiness.

Neither and both. There is no marriage in heaven and we will all be brothers and sisters in Christ.

Both if they all go to Heaven. Fortunately Heaven isn't like Earth. Relationships won't be the same there as here.

Mark 12:18-25
Then come unto him the Sadducees, which say there is no resurrection; and they asked him, saying,

19 Master, Moses wrote unto us, If a man's brother die, and leave his wife behind him, and leave no children, that his brother should take his wife, and raise up seed unto his brother.

20 Now there were seven brethren: and the first took a wife, and dying left no seed.

21 And the second took her, and died, neither left he any seed: and the third likewise.

22 And the seven had her, and left no seed: last of all the woman died also.

23 In the resurrection therefore, when they shall rise, whose wife shall she be of them? for the seven had her to wife.

24 And Jesus answering said unto them, Do ye not therefore err, because ye know not the scriptures, neither the power of God?

25 For when they shall rise from the dead, they neither marry, nor are given in marriage; but are as the angels which are in heaven.
KJV

Why in the hell would this discussion be held on a damn hunting forum? C'mon man folks ought to know better. These are not topics for discussion here. Church, at home, face to face among friends, or on a religion forum. Don't be surprised by any remark that may be made on here. Common sense is definitely not common any more.
There are people of different faiths, including atheists and agnostics on here and people of different races but some folks have the crazy idea that only white, southern baptists are on this site and if anybody argues their view of the world they get attacked. So, if you're gonna post topics like this expect anything and don't get your panties in a wad if everyone doesn't agree with you.

It says "General Forum" and that means any topic is fair game for discussion.

There aren't many things that everyone will agree on, on this forum or anywhere else you have a diverse mix of people. Those of us who have been here for a long time would probably say this is much more than a hunting forum. We talk about hunting but also share about family, friends, life's ups and downs and we share our faith, too. When we do, as you said, we shouldn't be surprised if everyone doesn't share our opinion.
