Yeah it's got birds and some gooduns! You should be able to get on a bird, depending on weather. Good Luck!

The forest is located in and around some pretty rough neighborhoods. When I was at Auburn, I saw more stray dogs in the woods than I saw turkeys or deer. I think the only way to have any success out there is to go DEEEEEP into the woods where nobody is willing to go. Might be a tough hunt for youth weekend but as they say, you can't kill a turkey on the couch!

I've seen what 3" steel shot will do to a dog at 40 yards. I imagine htl would turn even the baddest pit a good flip.

I'll put it to you this way, If you take a map of Tuskegee and scale it off, it is almost physically impossible to get further than .6 miles from a road. Couple that with hundreds of college kids, and the place gets pounded. Out of all the wannabe turkey hunters I knew in college, only 2 had killed birds on Tuskegee. Yet all of them had tried.

It aint worth dealing with all the idiots during the year, but youth season might be to ticket to killing a bird out there.

I killed a few birds behind the viewing area, and yes there are dogs everywhere out there. It can be good but like others have said plenty of college kids that run and gun it and make killing birds there tough. But there are birds there just have to work for it. Just like any other public land in the state.

Buddy of mine had never really done much turkey hunting. He went to wal mart and bought a box call and an owl hooter. Parked on the side of the road, hooted, got a response, and 30 minutes later was leaving with a nice gobbler. Lucky bastard. I have never been during turkey season, but during deer there is a truck every 100-200 yds.

Less is more on public land, dont overlook the first gate that everyone drives by to get to the back where all of the turkeys are.
