I must be one of those guys whose ears can't dial in that sound frequency of drumming. I put this sound thru my ear buds and turned it up to 10 and barely heard it. How in the world can some guys say they can hear the drumming a hundred yards away???

Cause we can! Thank God in Heaven! laugh

I think it just depends on what type of hearing loss a person has. I can't hear high frequency stuff worth a chit. And it sux. An animal walking in super dry leaves has to be really, really close before I hear it but I can hear drumming a long way. BrentM is the only person I have hunted with thus far that can hear drumming from birds further away than I can.

Me too! Had the dang speakers on my computer turned all the way to try to hear the drumming and that gobble rattled the windows in the whole building!

I think a lot of it depends on the bird. Like, how loud he's doing it. The ones I've killed that I could hear drumming a long ways off (100+ yards) were older birds. I don't know if older turkeys drum louder than younger ones, but it seems that way to me.

They have to be close for me to hear them drum, I dont think most people know what to listen for. Once I finally figured out what it sounded like I hear several a year.

You need some speakers with bass to really hear it. Ear buds don't have any bass, or not much if any.

Exactly!!! I was lucky enough dad taught me what one sounded like at a young age and I can hear them drum a good ways off, especially in the hollers in the mountains.

I have severe hearing loss in one ear and not so good in the other but thank god I can hear a bird drumming from well off. Deer hunting gets to be a challenge when a deer is coming from behind or in front I have no idea which direction it is coming from.

I can't hear the drum, but i can hear the spit. Even when I have raised turkeys, I couldn't hear them drum even from a few feet away. I could feel the vibrations from them drumming if I was really close, but I can't hear it. It really sucks, and it amazes me how far some of yall can hear it.

Can you guys with an iPad hear it? I've played it twice and haven't heard it yet. Trying to figure out if it's me or not.

I "use" to couldnt hear anything but the spit even when I watched a bird drumming right in front of me. I don't know what happened, age and a change in hearing, but I can hear it now. Not a good as some but I can hear it. To me it sounds like a normal spit followed by Luke Skywalker swinging his light saber. smile.
I still can't tell the direction though. I had one at less than 100 yds drumming like crazy on a gas line. I would have bet a paycheck he was at straight up noon and had my shotgun pointed that way. I finally caught movement and he was strutting and drumming coming in at 30 yds at my 2 oclock. I shoot left handed so I was able to swing and kill him.

I never could course drumming. Sounds like it could be coming from anywhere to me.

I know this character............... Don't let him fool you he makes them come running and they don't ever stop to stand around and drum.
