I can remember exactly where I was and what I was doing when I heard. I'd watched the race but never dreamed that would be the result when I saw the crash. I grew up a Gordon fan but had a lot of respect for Earnhardt. I remember going to the memorial a few days after at Talladega with some friends and it was amazing how many people were there. Seems like it was yesterday.

Was never a 3 fan but I was watching that day. It brought a tear to my eye. NASCAR changed that day but I still enjoy it although many have drifted away.

I remember Fox leaving the air after it happened, pissed me off.

We were rabbit hunting on our club in Chambers County that day.

The wreck didn't look like much. I knew it was serious when I saw Ken Schrader react the way he did when he walked up to Earnhardt's car. A little while later when they interviewed Schrader, I told my wife Earnhardt was dead. This was probably an hour or so before the announcement was made.

I was watching the race. I was always an Earnhardt fan and for some reason I knew he was gone as soon as it happened.

That was the day that NASCAR died for me.

It was a sad day for sure. It took a little while for me to let it sink in. To me he seemed invincible, as most of the top drivers did before that day. Ever since then I know that any of them can die in a crash and I think they all have a better grasp of it since then too.

He could drive a crappy car to the front and win. Nobody does that now.

Get the F out of the BATFE. The F is guaranteed by the US Constitution. Those other letters are not.

I was in Georgia visiting a friend that weekend. We watched the race then I hit the road for a 4 hr drive to SC. I wondered how he was. Then I turned on the radio and found out the news.

You guys, old Ironhead would want you guys to watch again.

The sport he helped build needs you.

I will be tuning in to the Daytona 500 this weekend.

I grew up about 15 miles from Talladega Superspeedway and remember a lot of good times there in my youth. I was anti-3 for a long time and I guess sometime around '92 or so I was in Turkey and we watched NASCAR every chance we got and I reckon that's when I became a fan.
I fondly remember driving back from the hunting club when he made that remarkable run from 18th to 1st at Talladega in 2000. I had to stop and pee at that rest area around Eutaw but I parked and just left the truck running so I could hear the radio and pissed in the grass.

I didn't know the severity of the wreck at the time. I had to leave right after the race and drive to a job site in Florida. That was a long tough drive that night.

Like a lot of others, I haven't watched a complete race since.
