Posted this on accident in the general forum and figured it would probably get more responses here. Vet seems to think my dog has partially torn her acl (or what is the equivalent to an acl in humans). There are a few surgical procedures available that will help and I'm trying to decide which procedure if any to choose. One is lateral suture method and the other is tplo. She is a lab and is 8 years old and around 60 pounds. The cost is significantly different between the 2 procedures and one is less invasive than the other but the cost is really not an issue when it comes to her. Just wondering if anyone on here has had an experience with this and if so what are your thoughts about it.

I meat to post another reply to the main thread, but something happened as it didn't post. Whichever way you decide, the most important thing is to keep the dog inactive while the surgery heals. It's gonna be a pain but it's the best way to ensure proper healing. Dr. Milton is who we refer most of our TPLOs and orthopedics to, he's awesome.

I've got a male lab that has had the TPLO surgery on both back legs. I researched it thoroughly and TPLO is the way to go. When a dog tears one ACL the odds are they will end up tearing the other one too. It costs a bunch by my dog is fine and healthy now. Like it was said already, you must keep the dog inactive for a long period of time for the heeling process. I kept mine in a large wire crate. I had my labs surgeries at the MSU vet school. Great folks. They know what they're doing.
