I'm curious as to what parents that consciously choose not to vaccinate their children attribute the almost complete eradication of certain diseases such as as smallpox and polio for which vaccines exist and are the reason they're not prevalent in society. I was watching an interview where an upper middle class (apparently) intelligent woman stated she believed the holistic body will "protect itself" when up against measles and other viruses and diseases for which there are perfectly good vaccines. I know there are fears such as poisoning and autism but at some point, the positives outweigh the risks and IMO this is a prime example.

I believe the fear of Autism is the main reason.
I know parents who take their kids to the Chiropractor for Ear Infections.

The entire autism study has been proven to be fraud and the British doctor who published it has been stripped of his licence and discredited. All of that crap was based on one paper by one idiot that has been proven to make up the number in the study. He manipulated the numbers to make them say what he wanted.

Even if it was true, these people don't understand that Measles is not just a rash and a fever. It caused brain swelling, inability to breath, can cause blindness and lose of the ability to speak. As a caring parent, assuming the false reports were true, would you rather subject your child to a small risk of autism or a potentially deadly disease?

Any parent that doesn't vaccinate a child should not be allowed to have a child. It is a form of child abuse.

I consider myself a conservative and particularly dont want the government telling my what to do. With that being said I do think most of the vaccines should be mandatory. If you go to public school they are mandatory, same if you use a registered/certified day care.

It just doesnt make good sense to NOT vaccine against an illness that could cause long term negative effects or death. If we could get rid of cancer with a vaccine would these same people still say NO???

These people also are relying in what is known as "herd immunizations". This means that if a certain percentage of a population is immunized for a disease, then the chances of infection are minuscule. However, the measles requires 95% of the population to be vaccinated for this theory to work. Numbers have now fallen to around 90% in some states and that is the reason for the outbreak.

All my children have their "shots", but I do believe certain shots have caused problems in the past. Wasn't there mercury in shots in the past? The benefits outweigh the cost though I believe.
Most parents who refuse to immunize are doing it FOR their child's sake (in their minds).

My mother worked with a woman who had a child that had a bad reaction to a vaccine, but that was years ago in the 1970s. I know the child was handicapped as a result, but I can't remember the particulars. Nowadays, I'm sure the vaccines are better and less likely to cause problems. Overall, I think it's best to immunize children.

We immunize our kids, but we space it out over time. I don't go in and let them give several vaccines per visit. It makes for a miserable day and a half.

That was our method as well. I'm all for vaccinations but I am NOT going to allow them to stack 5 to 7 shots into my child.

If people that choose not to vaccinate would jump on a plane with me when I have to venture off to some 3rd world slough and see the results of some of these diseases they'd run home to have their kids vaccinated.

We have a chiropractor in Hamilton who will tell you straight up that vaccines cause autism and other great harms to your children and that you should take care of pretty much all medical needs through chiropractic care. All that is PATENTLY false, and I'm stunned that a man who is supposedly educated would perpetuate such non-sense. And I'm not against chiropractic care . . . when that's what's needed.

My son does have autism that did show up after his shots. From my study it may be the fact they give more than one at a time. It overloads their systems. I say spread them out and not three or four at a one time.

We had good friends in Fargo that had a daughter with autism. Her issues did not develop until after she had a round of vaccinations at age 5 or so I think. She had her shots then came home and ran a very high fever that they were not able to contain.

He was a pharmacist and she a teacher and they still vaccinated all the other children but chose to follow a much less aggressive schedule. I have since met several that have experienced issues from stacking vaccines. I think there should me more research into the vaccination schedule.

Some good info in this thread. If I had young children and to be on the safe side, I would string the vaccinations out over a period of time.

Got a friend her kid had five shots with mercury stacked and has autism. Showed no signs until right after shots that contained mercury. Make sure shots are not stacked and do not contain mercury just in case. I wouldn't take a chance!

Some of these children that didn't show signs until after the shot are simply becuse signs of autism are often not shown until after the age when you get the shots.

I want one of you guys to pint to one single bit credible research that links vaccines to autism. Someone opinion is not credible and because a followed b doesn't mean that a was caused by b.

Here is a really good informational article discussing the medical and scientific research (with links to the research) that has been done regarding any links our causation of various vaccinations and cases of autism.

The bottom line is there has not yet been found any direct correlation between vaccinations (stacked or even slower rate) and a cause or trigger for autism.

Don't try to explain the difference between causation and correlation to anti-vaxers. They've got all the anecdotal evidence and junk science they need.

No junk science here but my boy had vaccinations beFore he could walk good and less than a week later he had a seizure followed by several more until he was put on meds. I used common sense that he had no had a seizure the first year of his life but less than a week after shots he did. I lived in Saudi Arabia as a kid so I wad loaded up with vaccinations but I don't know at this point if I will risk the vaccination shots or risk him not being vaccinated. Either way it is up to me and ill take responsibility of the outcome. Damned if you do damned if you dont.

Great point.

Of course, these are the people that are giving scientific credibility to and are taking medical advice from Jenny McCarthy.

I think Jenny is just absolutely great!...until she opens that damn mouth.

People ought to be calling her out on TV as the CAUSE of this measles outbreak.
