I just popped a spike from 90 yards with Barnes TTSX 150g 308. In top right shoulder, thru spine, out left shoulder. Good blood at the hit sight but didn't really matter as he dropped in his tracks ... Didn't even kick. That the way I like them

. Deer had blood wrapped around her like a band from the flip. There was a solid string of bright red blood for about 10-15 ft past her. Not drops, a solid line. Bullet obviously never expanded. Hardly lost any velocity. Downfall of 7 mag.
Man that sounds like an awful lot of blood to come out a .284" hole. That sounds more to me like a commercial for absolutely perfect bullet performance.

I also believe a bullet should disperse all of its energy inside a deer.Whats the point in a bullet still haveing energy when it exits the other side. As a matter of fact, its less dangerous if the bullet doesn't exit. Look, either way, if someone shoots deer with a high powered rifle with todays ammo, they should fine the deer close by, or they need to look in the mirror. I just don't have the problems that a lot of people have on here with deer running off, after being shot. The few that do, fall within sight. Nail on the head ^^^^^^. If you do your job on the trigger, you should be able to find a dead deer 50 yards or so WITHOUT a red river blood trail. Sure big ol' exit holes are beneficial, but not necessary, and that was the question. yeah but some times 50 yards is like a mile . on fairly open ground it aint to bad finding a dead deer but when they are in some of the mess i hunt or have hunted that blood on the ground is the difference in a lost deer or a found deer . course a lot of my problem is i lung shot all my does if i can . even with the 35 whelen (same with my 7mag) i'm shooting now i have to trail them 30/40 yards but i got a river to follow . the one i drug out sunday i went straight to her and i ended up as bloody as she was . glad i didn't have to spend a couple hours in that mess trying to find her . but shooting does and big bucks are two different stories for me. i like a little angle when i pop them and i don't worry about saving meat . lol If you have the shot, shoot yer does in the head or very high neck. Long as you lung shoot them, you're gonna have them run. I can assure you, you do not hunt any thicker areas than I do.

I've never understood the POV. I think we all agree the easiest path for a bullet to hit vital organs is broadside through the ribs. It's the closest distance with the least resistance. Why would that be a good strategy on does and not bucks. Bucks have more muscle mass and heavier shoulders, yet ppl want to shoot a buck where he is most protected.  I don't care how big an animal is, if his heart and lungs are destroyed, its going to die and I want a bullet that will reach those vitals, even if the angle isn't perfect. bigger the deer the harder the the hit . on a big buck i like broking bones and making the heart and lungs look like mush . i like a quartering to or away , i get shoulder heart and lung and a pass through with what i shot . if i get the gut on the way oh well . if he raises he head i'll spine him if i need too . i want does for meat , i want less/no damage to meat . in a blue moon losing a doe is no big deal . i want bucks broke down and torn up , DRT if possible. a big buck running flat out can at times cover a lot of ground with a blowed out heart or lungs. course thats what i like .

lol , talking about high shoulder/neck shot . i shot a doe that was over a raise all i could see was about 6" of her back . i hit her with that 35 whelen forward of the shoulder and high and caught the spine low . blowed a hole in her you could put three fist in . lol

I was amazed by it at the time. It was so weird walking up. A bright red line, I'm guessing where the bullet just sucked the blood out on its way through, and it was clear that it had wrapped around her. Didn't believe what I had seen through the scope. She was on the small side for a doe though. At 55 yards that SST was still humming along around 3,120 FPS. It hit her doing 2,127 MPH lol.
