Take the heart out and it doesn't matter. I bet there has been more deer trailed with a Texas heart shot, as they have with a gut shot.. A deer will run with a blowed up heart.. Who said anything about a Texas heart shot? Ooops, standby for a google check.

Isn't a "Texas heart shot" a shot straight in the ass of a deer? That's what I always heard it to be.

I like as much penetration as possible, with controlled expansion. Precisely the reason I shoot core-lokts. I get mostly pass throughs on everything broadside or slightly quartering. I don't always get a pass through on very close shots. Core-lokts seem to have peak performance at 100-300 yards. Pass through inside of 100 yards is not that important to me because I have a dead deer that hasn't traveled more than 50 yards from where I shot it. Guaranteed.

ever texas heart i ever made , it was dead rolling forward . you run a good 270 , 30-06 or 7mag that will hold together up the center of his hind quarters he's going down .

I absolutely want a pass through. There has been a lot of threads on bullets lately and I've said this every time.
I love the 140 Accubonds in my 270 and 270 wsm. They expand reliably at every distance I've shot deer ( 20-300) yards, yet they hold together and penetrate. Every deer but 1 has been DRT. That tells me they are dumping energy while they penetrate. Ive had 100% success with them and that gives me confidence.
DW is right on. Two holes are always better than one.
I believe yall when you say that Corelokts perform well and exit, but I've never experienced this. I know its a small sample, but I've killed 5 deer with corelokts. 4 does and one 8pt, between 40 and 250 yards. Only one bullet exited, and that was a neck shot on a doe. I can't explain this, but I don't trust them.

I've kept dozens of core-lokts that I retrieved from just under the skin, with all of them having at a minimum doubled, with several having tripled in size.

I used to shoot 180g Winchester silver tips years ago and they were just like the lead tip corelokts. I'm sure some of y'all remember them but I have not seen them anywhere in several years. Several deer while skinning them had little bits and peices of what looked like aluminum, anyways I would love to have a few boxes of them again. My 308 really liked those and they did a great job. I've shot corelokts since the silver tips went off the shelves. A well placed shot goes a long ways.

two holes is better than one.. And on another note, I will shoot at a BIG buck until he stops moving or I run out of shells.. Seen to many keep going when you thought he was down.. Same here I'm shootin' if he's movin'. I've lost a few big bucks in my early years so now I aim for the break-e-o plexus ( where the shoulder meets the neck).

I like a pass-through. Unless you hit high and break a BIG, OLD buck down.....they are tough to kill and usually are gonna run. And, they can tote a lot of lead with a lot of damage!!!! A blood trail sure is easier on the nerves when you walk up to the spot he was standing when you shot if he is not laying there!!!!

An SST is a good bullet...the fact it has a polymer tip doesnt put it in the same performance class as a Nosler Ballistic tip (NBT}... At that close range its above its comfort zone as far as staying together...Every polymer tipped bullet is NOT a NBT. NBT are designed to come part with controlled expansion...bang *poof* that what they're meant to do...Thats why Nosler created the Accu Bond..
SSTs are a lot tougher but can disintegrate at close ranges... I currently use a Hornady Interbond, which is also polymer tipped...I have never had one pass thru...even at 20 yards...which happened this year MOF...killed one at 200, one at 20...both had pass thru and incredible internal destruction but exit hole itself was impressive...but it donkey stomped Bambi...
As far as the most nasty entry AND exit wounds as far as a bullet has been the Sierra Game Kings...entry brusing in huge and exits look like horror movie stuff... Hornady doesn't make my rounds any more...Im gonna reload some Sierra Game Kings and some Accubonds which I havent tried before...best group gets to hunt next year...

On eastern whitetails I want a bullet that penetrates a few inches and then goes off like a bomb. I don't want an exit. Sooner or later I'm sure I'm gonna have one bounce off, like I hear guys talks about.

Here is why i want a psss through: A buddy shot a 190 lb buck broadside behind the shoulder this weekend with a 308. The shot took out both lungs, but the deer ran 90 yards. He was hunting on the edge of a thick clearcut and could not find a drop of blood and was 't able to find the deer on his own
He called in a dog and found the buck, but without it he probably never would have.

I shoot a super performance Hornady 165 gr. 300 win mag. Bang/flop about 99% of the time. Most times i get a pass thru and have massive wound channels. The 2 bucks i killed this year, i didn't have a pass thru, the first one was a high shoulder shot and he hit the ground and never even kicked. The second one was angling away. It enter in front of the left hindquarter and traveled to the off shoulder and he went down like you hit him in the head with a hammer. I've probably killed over 100 deer with the Hornady SST, and never had a problem.

I'll not shoot ANY bullet that disintigrates and fails to get deep penetration. I shoot mostly Nosler Partitions for that reason. The front 1/3 of a Partition is lighter built and fast expanding. The back part does not expand and penetrates deeply. The only Partitions that I have ever recovered were from stem to stern hits and recovered under the skin on the backend...and one stern to stem shot recovered at the briskit from a DRT buck.
IF you have to track em TWO holes is 10X better than one hole.
I've spent most of the money I've made in my lifetime on hunting and fishing. The rest I just wasted.....

Yes be did, but 85 of those yards were through head high briars in a very thick clear cut. Trust me it aint easy finding one in that kind of stuff whe you have nothing to track. Doing it in the dark is darn near impossible. I have litterally walked within feet of dead deer and not seen them.
