I like as much penetration as possible, with controlled expansion. Precisely the reason I shoot core-lokts. I get mostly pass throughs on everything broadside or slightly quartering. I don't always get a pass through on very close shots. Core-lokts seem to have peak performance at 100-300 yards. Pass through inside of 100 yards is not that important to me because I have a dead deer that hasn't traveled more than 50 yards from where I shot it. Guaranteed.
