PISS ON THAT!!!! I want a pass through, no matter where I hit it. I won't it to bust through both shoulders, or go in behind one and brake the other on. I want a pass through.. 99% of the deer I have shot, done what the doe did I shot last sunday. .243 100 grain power shock.... Hit behind left shoulder exited through right shoulder, broke bone and all while leaving a nice 15 yard blood trail. I want a pass through... Core-lokt power point, power shock, whatever you want to call them give me a lead tip bullet all day every day..

I shot a deer yesterday with a Barnes TTSX 150g in 308. She was quartering away and about to head out so I lined up on her lungs and fired. Entry wound was 3" in diameter, it went through her chest cavity and lodged in her left shoulder. It absolutely devastated her right lung, not really anything left of it. I just don't get how the bullet exiting from her shoulder would have done anything of benefit as compared to it lodging in the shoulder. Maybe knock her down or something but the lung damage was a fast death sentence

She did run 70 yards before she fell, maybe if the bullet had penetrated and exited her shoulder instead of lodging in it ... maybe she would have fallend sooner

two holes is better than one.. And on another note, I will shoot at a BIG buck until he stops moving or I run out of shells.. Seen to many keep going when you thought he was down..

Paul the reason that a pass thru would have been a lot more beneficial for you is the blood. You said you had a bit of trouble finding blood for a while yesterday. If the bullet had went thru you probably would have had 5x more blood to work with. I'm just shocked that a TTSX didn't make it thru a doe! Are you hand loading them?

Entry wound was 3" in diameter, WOW! Was it at a really sharp angle maybe, and when it hit ribs it busted them up bad enough to open up the entrance hole?

Yes John, she was quartering away and it hit ribs ... BOOM!
Brent there was a great deal of blood and lung matter. The problem was that there was a light layer of snow on the ground. The warm blood went right thru it to the ground and the layer of snow was so light you couldn't see the holes the blood made. When the sun came out I was able to follow a 60-70 yard trail in about an hour. Maybe not a great job on my part but it was my first experience tracking and I had no help

I shoot .308 150 gr SST superformance , I think I've always had a pass through behind the shoulder. First buck I shot this year I had a pass though with one through both shoulders. Only times I remember not having a pass through is on hard quartering shots, but that would be common with about any bullet in the 308/30-06 range.

Why would it be common, that's the kind of shot I made Hard quartering shot is almost the length of the animal, calibers I've always shot( 7-08,.270, .308, 30-06) wouldn't always exit. A lot more tissue than broad side though the ribcage . Takes a lot of velocity to enter almost through the hip and travel almost the whole length of the animal , then bust out of the opposite shoulder.

My shot today hit him hard and opened him up. As soon as I hit him he was gushing blood with every beart beat. He had a hole the size of a tennis ball for an entrance. He stumbled, fell, got up, stumbled fell. i suppose I can't complain. I just figured at 40 yards a 30.06 would tear all the way through them.

I always want a pass through that's why I shoot 140 Accubonds in my 7 mag. If I shoot them behind the shoulder I have a pass through or if I shoot them in the shoulder it's still a pass through. If I do have to blood trail them I'd much rather them be bleeding from two holes instead of one.

Take the heart out and it doesn't matter. I bet there has been more deer trailed with a Texas heart shot, as they have with a gut shot.. A deer will run with a blowed up heart..
