Hard quartering shot is almost the length of the animal, calibers I've always shot( 7-08,.270, .308, 30-06) wouldn't always exit. A lot more tissue than broad side though the ribcage . Takes a lot of velocity to enter almost through the hip and travel almost the whole length of the animal , then bust out of the opposite shoulder.
