They're a breeze to operate. I had a hand held Lowrance for years. Last summer I bought a Lowrance LMS-320 sonar gps combo and have no complaints. The 320 was dropped for the newer 480 which a friend of mine bought and he loves it. We both bought chips from Navionics that has pretty good lake detail.
I still have my hand held that I don't use any more if you're interested.
