Anyone use a gps to mark fishing holes? I am thinking about buying one to mark some of the deeper holes this summer. Just not sure what kind to buy/or if i could even work the thing if i bought one. Any help is appreciated.

I have used mine a little bit up at Guntersville. I have a map of the lake that actually has some of the good points, holes, and roadbeds with the coordinates listed. The Garmin etrex is a fine GPS and is very easy to use and cheap. It is listed at $99.99 at cabelas.

They're a breeze to operate. I had a hand held Lowrance for years. Last summer I bought a Lowrance LMS-320 sonar gps combo and have no complaints. The 320 was dropped for the newer 480 which a friend of mine bought and he loves it. We both bought chips from Navionics that has pretty good lake detail.
I still have my hand held that I don't use any more if you're interested.

I have the Lowrance M56. If I ever figure out how to use all the features, I'll let you know  It's pretty inexpensive: around $300. The coolest thing is the built in maps. Comes in handy when you're on lakes you don't know or riding around in the dark.......

Does the Navionics chip have lake seminole and eufaula? How much for your old handheld? I looked at the etrex yesterday at wally world and it looked pretty easy to use.

Here is a link to Navionics. The maps you buy cover a region. http://www.navionics.com/LakeMaps.asp My handheld is an Eagle Explorer (don't know why I thought it was a Lowrance). It has no map features. It just shows your trails,wpts etc. It's pretty basic but works well. I even have a cig. lighter adapter that I used in my boat b/c it eats batteries like candy. I'll sell it all for $50. I even have the book around here somewhere.
