Guys--I'm pretty sure the monitor on the dash is an oil life monitor; it does not tell you how much oil you actually have left. When you get to 0%, you change your oil. 0% does not mean you are actually out of oil. We bought my wife a 2009 Yukon 2 years ago. Neither my family nor hers have GM vehicles so we were not aware of this. We do like the Yukon but wow she about messed it up. She let the vehicle get to around 18% oil on the monitor and when we changed it it barely filled up an empty quart. She was just used to going by the 3k-5k mileage mark. That could have been disastrous if she would have blown the motor. There are two different warnings. One for needing to change it and the other for low oil. My experience with 3 GM vehicles is that is alerts you at 1 quart low. I have never had to add more than a quart if that warning occurred.

My 09 dodge uses a quart between changes.Nevr had the problem before but 2 changes ago I switched to synthetic.I'm at 50,000 now.

I finally got ride of my 2007 Gmc Sierra because of this. After having the dealership do a 2500.00 repair to the heads to fix the issue. It on only helped for a few months and then was back to the same oil usage. You spent $2500 to keep from spending $7-10 on extra oil between oil changes?

I got news for yall, its not just GM. . I got 2 2011 Ford 350 vans I maintain at work and I cant keep oil in the damn things. My 09 chevy at work only has 30K and hasnt started using it yet, the vans are both at 60 and 80k and use 3-5 quarts between changes. Both running the 5.4. BAM!!!!!! Got an 01 F150 5.4 uses/consumes oil. Wife has 2008 Trailblazer with the aluminum 5.3 and it does the same thing. She called me the other morning and she said low oil light was on. I just about S&$! in my pants. Told her to cut it off and I would be there. Well, it was three quarts low and showed 38% oil life. All mfg design todays engines to consume oil. I think we have a conspiracy theory going!!!!!!!

Never once got a low oil light or any other light on my wife's Equinox. We bought the vehicle and within 3k miles it was almost 3 quarts low and no light of any kind. I couldn't understand that at all.

My 02' Tahoe with 194K miles uses less than a quart every 3,000 miles.....think I'll hang onto it for a while

Two of my sons have the 2007 Tahoes and they "burn" oil really often. One thing is these kids rely on the computer and dashboard messages, they don't ever use the dip stick. I also think they really aren't burning oil, but it's just bypassing through the system is why you don't see smoke. They don't go through the oil consistently, it seems like it's usually long steady drives at less than interstate speeds. Around town they don't use it. On a 300 mile drive down the interstate it doesn't use it. But a 30 mile drive through the country twice a day will burn two quarts in a week. My wife's 2005 suburban hasn't burned a quart between oil changes in 10 years.
not sure what the best way to handle them is but they shouldnt be on tv and gettn married and raisin kids

My step dad's 07 had a 150,000 when he sold & he never had this issue...But he changed his oil every 3,500
Do not regret growing older, it's a privilege denied to many!
