Using a quick calculation, if his head is 9" wide from temple to temple, the deer has a 45" spread. Where have you ever seen a whitetail deer with a 9" wide head? I was referring to the man's head, proving how ridiculous the scale is on the picture. Using the deer's head, which is in the same plane as the antlers, would give a more appropriate estimate for the spread.

I consider my head to be big, but I'd guesstimate mine to be 5.5-6 inches wide at the temple. But yeah...he's holding that head way out there.

Great deer! He's long arming that joker though! Haha yep....the camera is like 6" from the deers nose. Look at the guys hands compared to his head. And that's not to take away from the deer because its still a super nice deer. Everyone wants a good pic of their deer and want to pose with it, but when you mess with the perspective that much it starts looking cartoonish and fake. Not necessary. But with all that said, awesome deer. Ahhhh so that's what long arming means lol. I have seen people use the term on here before, wasn't sure what they were talking about.

I wish someone would take 2 pics of the same deer, 1 "long-arming" the hell out of it, and 1 just posing with it normal. same person/same deer, just to demonstrate how much you can manipulate the perspective. and it's not just holding it way out in front of you, proper "long arming" technique is to put the camera RIGHT up in the deer's face so that it just barely fits in the frame, AND get as far behind it as possible. Lee & Tiffany Lakosky are frickin' masters at this. and it's a shame, because their deer are as big as anyone's, but jacking with the perspective so much takes away from the deer because it makes it unbelievable.

Haha that's halarious, I may try this with some of my taxidermy just to see what It will look like. Anytime I get pics with a buck I kill I pull that sucker up close and get a good look at him. My avatar is an example.

My avatar is an example. you know, that's not a bad idea....you should do a couple examples with some of your deer. I may even pull mine down off the wall and do a couple "before/after" pics.

"Long-arming" is an old photo trick, nothing new. It's done with fish, too.
I've told photographers no when they want me to "sit back by the deer's butt and hold the antler." No. Won't do it. It's stupid. I don't want to shoot those photos, either.
Sit normal and have a nice pose with a skylighted rack or good background and smile. Smile, dammit. Too many jackwagons look like they're getting a rectal exam. Friggin' smile with your deer or fish or turkey.
